Future Leaders

BISCO's youth group, BISCO Jr. comprises of youth from the ages of 13 to 20. BISCO, Jr.'s goal is to allow youth to develop confident leadership skills, which will aid and benefit youth through all areas of their lives.

Activities
 
On hiatus for several years, BISCO, Jr. regrouped in 2009 to encourage the community's youth to participate in community events.
 
This year, for the 5th year in a row, BISCO youth have had the opportunity to participate in a program which allows low-income youth to receive free swimming lessons from the Lafourche Parish Recreation department on behalf of the City of Thibodaux. 50 children received free swimming lessons this year.
 
BISCO, Jr. members helped to coordinate and decorateBISCO's Recreation Action, which was held in July. BISCO, Jr. members also assisted BISCO staff during the Neighborhood Funder's Group event, held in October. For the Christmas season, BISCO, Jr. held a toy drive, which serviced about 30 families.
 
BISCO, Jr. is looking to expand.
 
Maryal Mewherter, BISCO Organizer, is the group's advisor and mentor.
 
 

Mayor Caillouet once again partners with BISCO to provide swimming lessons to our area youth--August 16, 2011

On Monday, August 16th, Mayor Caillouet, Ron Alcorn, TREC Director, and Sharon Gauthe, BISCO Director handed out awards to the students that participated in the Recreation's Swimming Program. Students ages 6 to 13 participated by reading 10 books and  writing reports about what they learned.

Fifty students participated in this program.
